Drew Estate was founded in 1995 by fraternity brothers Jonathan Drew Sann and Marvin Samel. The company got its start at a cigar kiosk in the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan, establishing themselves as a respected cigar retailer. Due to a devastating hurricane that not only affected the lives of many, the production workflow was affected. Nicaragua’s rich volcanic soil and ideal growing climate made it a natural home base, and the country has become almost synonymous with the Drew Estate name over the years.

Early on, Drew Estate made waves with ACID, its infused, botanical cigar line that broke sharply from tradition and helped introduce a whole new audience to premium cigars. Drew Estate’s Nicaragua factory, known as La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, has grown into one of the largest and most respected cigar factories in the world, employing thousands of skilled rollers and producing an enormous volume of cigars across dozens of distinct blends. Widely regarded as the one of the most sought-after cigars in the industry, Liga Privada uses a dark, oily Oscura Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper aged for several years before rolling. A hybrid of sorts between Drew Estate’s infused and traditional lines, Tabak Especial pairs either a Mexican San Andres Maduro (Negra) or Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade Grown (Dulce) wrapper with subtle notes of espresso. It offers a middle ground for smokers who enjoy a touch of sweetness without going as far into infused territory as the ACID line.

No rundown of Drew Estate would be complete without mentioning ACID, the brand that first put the company on the map.
