SMOK RPM Coil Series Guide (UPDATED 2026)

SMOK has released enough RPM devices over the years that the family tree has gotten a little tangled. So we sat down and mapped it all out for you, one generation at a time, so you can grab the right coil on the first try.

Here’s the deal up front: the pod decides the coil, not the device name. Some kits ship with a choice of pods, so two people with the exact same device could need two completely different coils. Keep that in mind as we go.

This is the coil that started it all, and it’s still one of the most widely stocked coils on the site because so many devices still use it. If your pod says plain “RPM” - no number after it, this is your lane.

Fits: RPM40, RPM 80, RPM80 Pro, Nord 2, Nord 4  and Nord X (when running the RPM pod), Fetch Mini, Fetch Pro, Alike, and SCAR-P3.

If you’re vaping nic salts and want that tight, cigarette-like pull, start with the 1.2ohm quartz or 1.0ohm single. The quartz build in particular wicks through a quartz element instead of cotton, and a lot of vapers swear it gives cleaner, truer flavor; especially on fruit and menthol profiles. If you’re running regular freebase juice at 3-6mg and want bigger clouds and a warmer draw, the 0.6ohm triple or 0.4ohm mesh are where it’s at.

RPM 2 trimmed the lineup down but pushed the wattage ceiling up considerably. It’s the coil you’ll find in a lot of SMOK’s mid-tier and higher-wattage pod kits.

Fits: RPM 2, RPM 2S, RPM C, RPM 85, RPM 100, IPX80, Nord 4 and Nord X (on the RPM 2 pod), SCAR-P3, SCAR-P5, G-Priv Pod, G-Priv Pro, Thallo, and Thallo S.

The 0.16ohm mesh is the flagship of this generation for a reason. Most people land around 40W and get a genuinely dense, flavorful cloud out of it. If you want something closer to a cigarette draw, the 0.6ohm DC MTL is your pick and sips battery life while it’s at it.

Once important thing: RPM and RPM 2 coils are not interchangeable in either direction. They look similar at a glance, but the pin spacing and pod design are different enough that they simply won’t seat right if you try to force it.

This is where SMOK’s newer, high-wattage devices have landed on the RPM 3 Coils, and it’s built around mesh technology through and through. More surface area against the wick means more even heating, better flavor, and bigger clouds.

FIts: RPM 5, Nord 5, Nord GT, and RPM 85/100 (RPM 3 pod variant).

RPM 3 coils are noticeably more capable at high wattages than earlier RPM builds, which tracks with where SMOK’s devices have been heading. These are built for vapers who want serious cloud output without stepping up to a full box mod and sub-ohm tank.

RPM 4 is the newest addition to the family built for the Nord 6 pod system and simplifies things down to two clean wattage-focused options. It’s a straightforward, dual-O-ring mesh platform designed to seal tight and hit hard

The dual O-ring design is worth calling out here. It’s specifically meant to cut down on the leaking that can happen when a coil doesn’t seat perfectly, so installs feel more secure than some earlier RPM generations. Like the rest of the lineup it’s press-fit, so swapping takes seconds with no threading involved.

One compatibility note that trips people up: the Nord 6’s empty pod is actually built to accept both RPM 4 and RPM 3 coils, so it you’ve got a stash of RPM 3 coils left over, they’ll still work in a Nord 6. It does not go the other way, though. Older RPM 4-only devices and pods won’t accept the newer RPM 4 coil.

• Device is a Nord 5, RPM 5, Nord GT, or newer RPM 85/100 with RPM 3 pod > RPM 3 Coils
• Device is a Nord 6 > RPM 4 Coils (also accepts RPM 3 coils, but not vice versa)
• Still not sure? Check the pod itself (not just the device box) or your user manual. Several kits ship with a choice of two pod types in the same box.

A few habits go a long way no matter which generation you’re running:

• Prime before you vape. Drip a couple drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton or mesh ports, then let the filled pod sit for 5-10 minutes before your first puff. Skipping this is the number one cause of burnt hits on a brand new coil. 
• Start low, work up. Fire your first tank near the bottom of the recommended wattage range and increase gradually to find your sweet spot.
• Don’t chain vape a new coil. Give it a little time between the first few puffs.
• Match your juice to your coil. Higher-VG juice generally performs better in mesh and sub-ohm builds; MTL coils are happiest with a more balanced or higher-PG mix.
• Refill before it runs dry. One dry hit can shorten a coil’s life dramatically. Top off the pod before it gets low rather than after. 

Most RPM coils last somewhere between one and two weeks with regular use. Sweeter, darker juices tend to gunk them up faster. Once flavor goes muted or you get a burnt edge that doesn’t go away after a refill, it’s time to swap.
