REVIEW: VOOPOO Argus Z3 20W Pod System

VOOPOO's Argus family just got a new member, and the Z3 brings some real upgrades over the Z2. Pod systems have always been a tried and true vape companion, but the industry has advanced tenfold with higher puff counts, seamless resistance controls, and advanced airflow for the perfect session. Despite all that competition, the Argus Z3 sets itself apart as the industry's first multi-ohm cartridge pod.

Here's what that actually means for you.

The multi-ohm cartridge is the headline feature here, giving you one pod with two resistances built in.

The multi-ohm cartridge comes in 0.7 ohm and 1.0 ohm for the Z3. There's also a 0.4 ohm variant, but that's reserved for other Argus devices. The Z3 also has topside filling, and comes in 3.5mL, so there's no more juggling separate pods for different vibes. 

If you want to hit it at 1.0 ohm but your friend prefers 0.7, you don't need tools or a swap. Just flip the pod around and you're set.

It's also lighter than previous generations, with a 9.3g difference that makes it ideal for on-the-go sessions. Stepless airflow means you're never locked into a preset either, so you get full control over every pull.

The 1100mAh battery holds up well whether you're new to this or you've been vaping for years, and between the intuitive controls and wide range of colors, it works well and its oversimplification is refreshing as a daily driver.

Personally, light up LED screens with an abundance of vaping stats overwhelm me. This device skips all that and gives you an energy bar system instead: blue for 0.7 ohm, green for 1.0 ohm, with each bar on the power indicator representing 25% of your charge.

The lineup features six different color options. Pearl white and cyber black are the classics, sleek and no fuss. Blazing orange is my favorite because it has some personality to the design: the rim of the pod system pops in blue while the body carries a vibrant orange hue. Completing the lineup, VOOPOO also makes the Z3 in denim blue, grass green, and coral pink.

Eight safety protections come built in, arguably the most important being short-circuit protection, which helps mitigate the risk of overheating or similar issues. This is a sleek device that's great for a variety of users, though it skips the bells and whistles of a manual control setup. There's no screen, and it doesn't feature high speed charging.

The build itself uses PCTG instead of metal, which may be an ergonomic concern for some people. Even so, you're getting a lot of value here. With a 20W maximum output and a lower resistance configuration, it naturally suits both MTL and DTL vaping styles. Rebuildable fanatics obviously won't be reaching for a pod system, but if you're making the transition from disposables to something with more longevity, this is a strong option.

Customization isn't extensive, but the device stays compact, and there are still a few ways to tailor the experience to your liking. Cloud chasing is a little difficult on this setup, so it's probably not the best pick if that's your main goal.

Altogether, it's a solid pod system that keeps things simple without cutting corners. The stepless airflow and the multi-ohm cartridge pod are where it really shines. It's a clear step up from what came before it.

There are way more pros then cons, but it does have a few flaws worth mentioning.

When compared to other products that recently came out this year like the Oxva Xlim Pro 2, which features a high capacity battery and screen display function I would say that it is a solid competitor. The pod technology is something that the Oxva Xlim Pro 2 doesn’t have, but the flavor production is where things heat up. The Oxva Xlim Pro 2 has insane flavor production, and with every puff you can taste your favorite e-liquid come through. Whereas, with the Argus Z3 it’s good but slightly more muted. The flavors shine through, at the expense of smaller cloud production. I would say that between the two it really is a tie. The price point might be the only differentiator with presale prices making the Z3 a true standout.

What really sells the Argus Z3 is the multi-ohm pod technology. It's a small addition, but it adds real flexibility without making the device any more complicated to use. That's proof that a stripped-down device can still leave a mark on the vaping space. The biggest and baddest devices aren't always the best.
